All That Glitters...

Images: ruffles & sequins, The Glitter Guide, Made by Girl, Pretty Stuff, Momtastic, The Glitter Guide

Feeling like I need a little end-of-the-week pick-me-up. Nothing a little sequins can't do.

P.S. I am totally getting my hands on that nail polish this weekend.

Local Native

Tribal prints have made their appearance here and there recently and are nothing new, but lately, this trend is popping up everywhere I turn. And I'm not going to lie, I kinda like it...

A few things I'm loving this past week:

{ DIY spray painted bottles }

Rainy Day Neutrals

So I don't know if it is all the rain in these parts this weekend or the new Tine K Home's Spring/Summer 2011 catalog (gorgeous!) that is getting me into a major neutral mode, but I am falling for the simplicity of whites and grey interiors. Maybe or maybe not with surprises and hints of colors here and there. A few of my favs:

Floor to ceiling windows + white vaulted ceilings...

I bet one could get very creative with this concept...

Pure perfection. Hands down one of my most favorite fireplaces yet...

So yes, there is a lot of color here in the bedding and accessories, but the window panes as the backdrop to the bed are exceptional...

Loving the contrast of the dark wall with white cabinets (and beautiful antique table) + chrome fixtures, appliances and accessories (a.k.a. knives)...

White painted exposed bricks + white textured bedding...

Seriously too much to say about this one. DREAM kitchen (well, one of many). I absolutely adore...

Flowers From the (Vegetable) Garden

Like many people, I absolutely love fresh flowers and usually try to pick them up weekly for the house. Last week I checked out a local flower shop that recently changed ownership and among the roses, carnations, lilies and other "common" flowers, she had some b-e-a-u-tiful BIG white flowering kale. Completely new to me. Never used vegetables as flowers before. We put it with some eucalyptus and other wild-looking fillers, and it has been one of my most favorite bouquets I have bought yet.

Here the flowers are a week ago fresh as can be:

Yesterday (a WEEK later) I trimmed the dying outside pieces off the kale and wah-la! Good as new! How gorgeous?

After getting curious and doing some research, I realized I am WAY behind in the floral design department because although this is the first time I have ever seen kale used this way, it looks like it isn't uncommon at all. Um, where have I been?

Here are some gorgeous examples and future floral inspiration for when I hit up the produce stand at my local farmers market next week:

Beautiful, right? What other "veggies" are you using for your floral arrangements?

Monday Mild Obsession (a little late!): Eskayel

While browsing this adorable blog, I was introduced to Brooklyn, NY-based, Eskayel, a design studio that creates textiles, wallpaper and ceramics. LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT. I think I could wallpaper my entire house with their designs.

Some of my absolute favorites:

I think a wall hanging will have to do for now... :)

Monday Mild Obsession: West Elm Terracotta Table Lamp

After antiquing with the bestie over the weekend, we swung into West Elm to peruse their holiday sale items. I immediately spotted this lamp. I. NEED. TO. HAVE. IT. I already told Sky one will be finding a home in our living room.

Before their Fall 2010 collection, I was feeling West Elm's stuff was getting a little stale. My opinion has definitely changed. LOVING what I was seeing in store (great textiles, vases, prints) this weekend and it made me oh so ready for spring...

DIY Book Paper Flowerettes

With all the silver and gold on our tree, I was looking for something to add a little matte depth to all the metallic and shimmer going on. I am loving all the book paper I have been seeing everywhere, so I decided I'd try incorporating it into our tree. Luckily, I have a TON of books from Sky's 30th party last year (I used antique paper for everything including the cupcake toppers, decor, cards, etc.).

To start, I cut varying sizes of circles and decided 3 layers of paper was sufficient. Next time I might add some tissue paper or fabric into the mix.

After layering 3 pieces of paper I sewed the back together (see below photo) and tied with red thread for contrast.

After sewn, I played with the shape of each to create a little flower. Voila!

These could be great gift toppers, or even better, a fun garland - perfect for any time of the year and easily customizable with varying papers and fabrics. Best of all, it is incredibly cheap, all while adding that homemade touch to your decor and gifts.
