Tribal prints have made their appearance here and there recently and are nothing new, but lately, this trend is popping up everywhere I turn. And I'm not going to lie, I kinda like it...
And how kick-ass are these? In lieu of holiday cards, this Minneapolis-based strategic design firm sent Valentine matchboxes to give their friends "a gift that would spark inspiration and re-energize the love for what they do". Imagine how fun it would be to receive one of these bad boys. I would feel inspired just being their friend.
I don't know why but every year when Spring hits, I am crazy about stripes. They are so simple and classic but have the power to make such a bold statement, in fashion and interiors alike.
If we owned our own place I would definitely do this. However, the aspect of painting the stripes myself is a little intimidating. For instance, last month this painting project became a DIY that turned bad (don't even ask) and it's size is quite the small fraction of an entire wall. Regardless of the labor of love aspect (if you do it yourself), striped walls can be such a fun accent to any room or home - as subtle or wild the color you choose - and the finished result is by far definitely worth the work.
If you can't tell, I am totally in spring mode. And perhaps this is why I am SO attracted to anything watercolor right now. The soft, translucent colors remind me of pretty blossoms, fresh grass, and the newness that the season brings.
I have always been a huge fan of inspiration boards. I love that they are always-changing, three-dimensional, mindfully powerful, yet aesthetically pleasing and oh-so-fun to look at. You can get such an incredible snapshot of someone and their personality and creative processes with just one glimpse. Definitely works of art themselves.
While finishing some last minute shopping yesterday at the mall, I came across this fantastic window display at Tory Burch. Lite Brite + huge deer = awesome!
I wonder what Sky would think if made something similar for the living room?...
I particularly enjoy design and the way it can affect people. I love the story in an old piece of furntiture or the way a photograph or painting can evoke emotion instantaneously. I love the art of entertaining. Working with my hands. Arts and crafts. The beauty in creating a space and a feeling. Making a house a home. Being Crafty McCrafterson on a laid-off budget (even though I am no longer laid-off). And appreciating life's beauties and simplicities as often as possible...
